5 things you must do to stand out in your business

Stand OutI believe there are 5 things you need to do to stand out in your business. You can…

1. Write a book (or more!)
2. Speak in front of an audience
3. Attract great PR and share your story
4. Get noticed online and via social media
5. Get nominated for or win an award

Now you don’t have to do all of these, but getting noticed, becoming more visible and stepping up are the rules of the game.

Let me go into this further…

1. Write a book

The rules of publishing have changed dramatically since I’ve been in business.  It has become increasingly easy to self-publish, to produce online books and to get your message out via all sorts of media.

But success in writing is more than just writing a book; it’s about having a book-ready business, aligning your book to your message, and having a system in place that allows you to use the book to attract clients and extend your reach. This is something that I’ll talk about next week on the Get Clients Fast Telesummit so please join me to find out more.

2. Go speaking

One of the marketing strategies that I’ve used for many years is speaking in front of audiences of my ideal clients, and it has really helped me to grow my business. Last week I was teaching speaking strategies at the Star Biz event and also gave a talk to the semi-finalists at the Venus Awards on Wednesday morning.

In 2013, I met at least half of my one-to-one clients through speaking – either face-to-face or via webinars.  Now here’s the thing – you no longer need to get to see people face-to-face (although I do it as I love it), it is easy to put on your own event online and reach new clients this way. But of course it is important to speak in front of the people who want to know about what you do!

3. Attract great PR

In The Business Wow Factor next month, the expert I’ve interviewed is Amanda Alexander who shares her tips for getting great PR. Success isn’t about sending out a press release, it’s about making real connections with real journalists. If you want to use PR as a marketing strategy, you’ve got to get yourself seen.

Certainly social media has made it easier, as journalists will often post their requests on Twitter, you can pitch to online magazines, and share your story with people who want to hear it.   When you are clear about your story and why it’s important, it’s easier to get noticed. The two opportunities that have come my way in the last couple of weeks – in The Daily Express and Business O Feminin magazine – have both come through requests on Twitter (and forwarded to me by my PR Expert!)

4. Get noticed online and via social media

As much as the offline strategies are important, following up new connections online will help you to cement and grow your networks. Creating an online presence with interesting blog posts, social media interaction and sharing interesting and inspiring information will certainly get you noticed. But again it’s not just about having a presence, it’s important to connect with others, share your expertise, comment on other people’s posts and interact with your potential clients.

When you stand out, people will get to know the real you – so tell your story, be authentic and let people get to know more about who you are.

5. Get nominated for or win an award

When I spoke at the Venus Awards event in Portsmouth earlier this week, I shared these top 5 tips, as being nominated for and winning an award is a great way to stand out in your business.  Although I was speaking to a couple of ladies who were surprised that they were there; what a great way to be thrust into the spotlight, be recognised for what you do, and get great PR for your business!

Want to stand out in your business?

I absolutely love helping my clients to stand out in their business. It opens them up to opportunities that they are willing to embrace with two hands that they would have dismissed before.

When you show up and stand for what you believe in, you’re going to make the difference you wanted to do when you started and get noticed by the people who need you.  So what do you need to do to stand out in your business this year?

Are you ready? Then contact me today for a free discovery call and I’ll show you how I can help you to get noticed this summer!

What do you think? I’d love you to share your comments on this post and if you’ve done one of these 5 things to stand out, how has it worked for you?
